In 2010, I started what ultimately became BCM Capital Management.  The idea for the firm grew after I began patiently and opportunistically curating a variety of exceptionally high income, high quality, tax-efficient assets for my personal portfolio.  I thought other investors would benefit from this approach and the strong results I generated.

One word to describe me?   Independent: not consensus-driven.  I’ve learned it’s impossible to earn above-average returns by following crowds.   In practice, this means we invest in assets that we can buy at less than perceived intrinsic value.

What I did before?  For 25 years I was a banker in fixed income capital markets helping companies strengthen their balance sheets and raise all forms of debt capital.  I worked in both corporate finance and trading environments.

Early in my career, I went through credit training “boot camp” from which I learned the investing fundamentals I employ today. My roles allowed for me to work on a distinctive array of transactions in leveraged finance, public high grade and high yield financings, private placements, asset backed securities, financial risk management instruments, cross border financings, etc. The range of projects, client types and industry sectors expanded dramatically during my 15 years – mostly as a Managing Director – with Bank of America and Lehman Brothers. I call on these broad experiences and skills everyday in our portfolio management decisions and practices.

My first job was?  Paperboy in upstate New York. Created my own route and delivered three papers on my bike.

Activities away from the desk?  I thoroughly enjoy family, including my three children. I love to travel and enjoy road cycling, and even still race on occasion.  Over the years I have coached youth baseball and have been involved in financial education for high school kids.
